Verbank Village Inn

An active flour mill was just northwest of the bridge and a blacksmith shop across from the Inn. It is located at 8 Milewood Road.

On a map in 1850 (and later in 1867 and 1876) it is shown as A. D. Davis Store and Hotel.

Steven Scutt (born 1836) came from Amenia to Union Vale in 1859. He was in the service and was discharged in 1863 for disability. (James Smith, History of Dutchess Co.) .Before 1876, Steven had owned the building as a store and hotel.

About 1910 the business was taken over by Steven's son, Frank. Frank's daughter, Dorthory, recalls how salesmen would stay overnight and the hitching posts were out front.

On maps prior to 1947 it is shown as Maple Shade Inn.

Domingo Fernandez owned the Inn from 1947 until Douglas and Muriel Evert purchased it in January 1966.
